CO state individual income tax Colorado charges one flat rate on the federal taxable income reported on Form 1040 line 15, taken whole: DR 0104 line 1 is "Federal Taxable Income from your federal income tax form", so this estimate cites IRS sources alongside Colorado's and grants no state standard deduction or personal exemption of its own. The rate is 4.25% for tax year 2024 and 4.40% for 2025. One provision changes that base on this surface: for a household with $300,000 or more of adjusted gross income, DR 0104 line 4 adds back the federal deduction the filer claimed above a state exemption of $12,000, or $16,000 filing jointly. Two credits are modeled. The TABOR State Sales Tax Refund returns a share of the state's constitutional revenue surplus through the return, as a flat amount for each qualifying individual banded by modified adjusted gross income — $177 to $565 for one individual in 2024, and $19 to $59 in 2025, doubled on a joint return where both spouses qualify. The earned income tax credit is half the federal credit and refundable. Several Colorado credits are NOT modeled and are named on the estimate instead, because each depends on a fact this calculator does not collect: both age-banded child credits, the child care expenses credits, the care worker credit and the senior housing credit. A household eligible for any of them owes less than shown. Below $50,000 of Colorado taxable income the booklet prints a tax table that charges the rate at each band's midpoint; this estimate applies the statutory rate exactly, which can differ from the printed table by up to $2.20 in either direction. No Colorado local income layer is modeled: the employee occupational privilege taxes levied by Denver, Glendale, Sheridan and Greenwood Village (and Aurora for 2024) are flat monthly head taxes on work performed there, $24 to $69 a year, and a household working in one of those cities owes that much more than shown. The estimate prices a household taking the FEDERAL STANDARD deduction. A household that itemizes federally adds its state income tax back on DR 0104 line 2, which this estimate does not model, so an itemizing filer owes more than shown — about $245 more for a single filer at $500,000 of income under the current state and local tax cap.
